Beyond the Visuals: Prototyping Motion to Eliminate Subjective Risk
Clients fail to understand design exploration. Rightfully so. It is our job, not theirs, to understand it. The common solution is for design teams to show multiple options and cramp up the timeline without understanding the real brief. Clients view motion design as a final-stage decorative layer (expensive, bespoke, single-use). Design teams view it as foundational brand language. This misalignment causes friction and budget scrutiny.
"Motion isn’t merely decoration. It’s the principle that keeps a brand coherent and unbroken in every execution."
Our job is also to instill confidence and trust. The failure isn't the client's lack of taste; it's the designer's failure to present motion as an economic system. So, by prototyping a motion system on Windsurf, we tackled many problems at once:
Experimentation and tweaking happened in real-time
Every decision was automatically applied to all instances where motion was needed
Clients can now see the rationale playing instead of guessing what happens next
I understood that providing more options doesn't necessarily mean better outcomes. It means more dilution and more confusion if the vision is wrongly aligned.
